Community Events

The Owsley County Drug Awareness Council is a combined effort of many different organizations from our community.  Owsley's Operation UNITE, KY ASAP, Owsley County Alliance for Tobacco Prevention, and Owsley County Drug Free Communities decided that it was time to stop fighting each other for resources and volunteers and start working together for a common goal.  So while all these organizations are still funded separately and have different guidelines for spending, they are all pooling their resources together to work toward a common theme.  To become a member of the Owsley County Drug Awareness Council you must come to at least two consecutive meetings and participate in activites and initiatives.

The Owsley County Drug Awareness Council mission and vision statement are as follows:

Mission Statement:  To provide a venue for Owsley County to conduct needs and resource assessments, build capacity, provide strategic planning, assist with implementation, and evaluation while being mindful of our cultural diversity in an effort to affect alcohol, tobacco, and other drug issues facing our community.

Vision Statement:  Owsley County will be a community free of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse and their related consequences therefore committing to embracing healthier lifestyles.
